I suppose this post is a bit late to commemorate National Pi Day, but better late than never. After our delicious meal at Pok Pok LA, Hobag and myself craved something sweet to finish out the night. We found ourselves near the Arts District, which seems to be a growing area in Downtown LA that attracts this generation’s burgeoning population of hipsters.
The name obviously speaks for itself. This place specializes in pies of all sorts. Their glowing case of fresh pies of the day.
Earl Grey Pie
This was a much-talked-about favorite among the Yelpers. If you love Earl Grey flavored things, this is money. Too bad I’m not an Earl Grey lover, though I appreciate the unique flavor. The floral scent of this tea really shined through. The crust was a bit dense for my liking. It’s just hard to win me over with cream pies, which are not really my thang.
Salted Caramel Pecan Pie
Nut pies are not really my thang either, but they did a nice job highlighting the rich aroma of toasted pecans and salty sweetness of the caramel.
Mom’s Apple Crumble
The apple pie was by far our favorite because we both prefer fruit pies. The crust was flakey. The crumble was a sweet complement to the tart apples. Go apple pie!
I can’t fault The Pie Hole for their pies, even if they didn’t particularly tickle my fancy. I am just biased. If you’re looking for many different pie flavors, traditional and non traditional alike, stop by for a visit. I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon though. I don’t love apple pie thaaaat much.
