You’ll be hard pressed to find many good restaurants in Barcelona that are open before 12pm for lunch. Cerveceria Catalana is unusual in that it opens up at 8am! Yes, you heard that right. If you want to have lunch for breakfast, you can easily do so here. An option like this helped start our day since many times we would sleep in and didn’t really feel like doing much until we had lunch. And waiting until 1pm for many of the other restaurants to open just seemed like a waste of the day.
Plato de Jamón Ibérico de Bellota
This stuff NEVER got old. EVER.
Huevos “Cabreaos”
We weren’t sure what this was but the server recommended it. It was ultra fried crispy shoe string fries, topped with a sunny side up egg with sweet tomato sauce. It was much too heavy for just 2 of us to finish. It also didn’t have much flavor.
Mixto de Espárragos y Hongos
By day 3 of the trip, I was seriously starving for some really vegetables. This wasn’t much, but it satisfied my cravings a bit. The asparagus were sweet and tender. The mushrooms were juicy and meaty.
Montadito de Entrecot buey, sal maldon, pimienta
The Annoyer was not accustomed to how meat significantly differs in Europe compared to America. The beef in all of Spain was chewier with a deeper beef aroma. This had a nice char and I liked the big flakes of salt.
Navajas a la Plancha
The nice difference between razor clams and the more familiar members of the shell fish family like clams and mussels, is the larger meatier muscular component compared to their intestinal parts. It’s practically all sweet delicious meat. They really know how to perfect them in Barcelona. YUMS!
Gambitas Rojas a la Plancha
I would have to say the razor clams were actually better than these bad boys, but these were still pretty fresh and sweet.
Since this place had such convenient dining hours, we returned for another earlier lunch to jump start our day.
Patatas Bravas
This time we skipped the huevos “cabreaos” and went for the patatas bravas. A solid decision. The potatoes were smothered in a garlic aioli with a sweet tomato sauce for dipping.
Plato de Jamón Ibérico de Bellota
Even though we ordered the razor clams again, I didn’t feel the need to repost another picture of it. The Iberico ham, on the other hand, I can’t get enough of, in my tummy and in front of my eyes, even if just in a picture. YUMS!!!!
Sepionas Plancha
I devoured this succulent little guys. The Annoyer could not be impressed by any seafood that was not razor clams.
Cerveceria Catalana was a definite win for us. Everything from the service to the food was solid. Given the odd, by Spanish standards, dining hours, this place obviously attracts tourists. We noted many Americans and Asians here. So while it may seem like they would cater to a tourist crowd, I assure you the food was fresh and authentic. Keep in mind we ate here twice and I am usuall loathe to repeat a meal. The convenience of this place was just too good. Solid tapas and friendly service to boot. What’s not to like?
