It’s probably been 15 years since the last time I saw Hipster KL. Back then he wasn’t so stylin’ and hipstery as he is now. The world is a small place and he happens to work with The Annoyer now. We decided to meet up at Peska, which turns out is a lot like Caracol. It’s seafood, but with a Mexican influence.
Sea Urchin
Really fresh, sweet. All the accouterments were different considering I usually eat uni on top of sushi rice with nori wrapped around.
Peska is known for its fresh seafood. Here was their fresh offering of the day. It is by NO means cheap. One of those big prawns were like $20-30 each!
Yucateco lime juice, octopus, shrimp, conch, habanero sauce, avocado, cilantro
Bright, acidic, with just a bit of spice. Maybe a little too sour for some folk.
Madai Crudo habanero, ginger, garlic, scallion, lime zest, soy caviar
Pretty mild flavors.
Soft Shell Crab Tacos battered and fried, red onions, avocado, citrus soy, flour tortilla
These were pretty tasty and well balanced.
Miso Bacalao nori sauce, sake, bonito flakes, shishito peppers
The Annoyer liked the miso fish quite a bit. It was very moist and that nori sauce was packed full of flavor. The shishito peppers were a nice touch.
Red Snapper
This was the fresh catch of the day. It was grilled and lightly seasoned with garlic and citrus sauce. I quite enjoyed it but The Annoyer liked the miso fish better. It was probably more dry than the cod naturally, but I appreciated the bright flavors.
Truffled Mash
Smooth, creamy, and full of truffle goodness.
Peska delivered on the fresh seafood. The menu was very extensive and had many types of seafoods done in many different ways. I can’t say I loved everything, but nothing was really bad either. I think what swayed my opinion was the price tag at the end. This place is not cheap and for a price like that I want to feel a little more wow and little less meh.
