Island Creek Oyster Bar

The Annoyer sang high praises for the lobster roe noodles here.  I was really looking forward to trying them, but we were sorely disappointed to find that this is only served for dinner.  We had hiked all the way out here for nothing!  After my 2 minute temper tantrum settled, reason took over and I decided to just make the most of it.  Lunch can still be just as good as dinner right?

Of course we had to partake in the fresh oyster selection.  So fresh, really excellent.

Crispy Oyster Slider brioche roll, lime chile aioli
The picture makes the slider look deceptively large, but it was true to its name.  The oyster could be easy to miss since the darn thing was so small.  I loved the light soft brioche roll and the pickled red onions were key in balance the slider.  DSC06801

No Shell Prince Edward Island Mussels white wine cream, parsley
I think we were surprised to see this dish.  I guess I missed the no shells part, but I didn’t think that meant the mussels would be outnumbered by the mounds Israeli couscous.  I was imagining a seafood dish, not a starch dish accented with seafood.  It was still good, lightly creamy with a touch of white wine.  Eaten with the hunk of bread made for a heavier dish.DSC06802

Ethel’s Lobster Roll kettle chips, cole slaw, rosemary roll
I think I prefer cold lobster rolls over hot ones.  The Annoyer disagrees.  I think we disagree a lot.  This was a more typical take on a lobster roll.  It wasn’t too creamy or too chintzy on quality lobster meat.  It was definitely not as plentiful as Neptune Oysters but it also did not come with that heavy price tag.  The coleslaw was a zingy highlight to the whole dish, which I loved.DSC06804

While my meal at Island Creek wasn’t what I was expecting (lobster roe noodles, I will have my way with you next time!), it was still enjoyable.  The only misstep was the mussels because I was expecting a giant bowl of mussels, not couscous.  The oysters were fresh, but there are probably oyster and lobster roll places closer to the city center.  Obviously, there’s Neptune Oysters but its pricey with a long wait.  I just felt like I was on that train for longer than I was used to and I had to transfer maybe once or twice.  It’s not a good feeling when you’re hungry.
