I didn’t know this about Capri before planning our trip, but the island has a low season. Many hotels, ours included, close for the fall/winter time. We were lucky to plan things out before this low season started, but I could tell the island felt a little bit on the emptier side. Our hotel, The Caesar Augustus Hotel, sat at the edge of a cliff with an expansive completely unobstructed view of the ocean. It was just blue sky meets deeper blue waters. It was really quite magical. But come night time, the area around the hotel is kind of dead. We already checked out Anacapri for lunch, and decided to go to Capri City for dinner. Villa Margherita was quite the trek from our hotel. But it actually wasn’t even our original destination, which turned out to be closed. I suspect because of the low season.
Amuse Bouche
Complements of the chef. A slice of prosciutto, drizzled with olive oil and a dollop of cheese. Nice and simple.
Spaghetti with Clams
We’d pretty much been eating some version of seafood pasta throughout the Italian part of our vacation. You’d think I would have tired of it by now, but no. Deliciously simple.
Lemon Fettucine with Shrimp
This was quite similar to the disappointing dish we had for dinner the previous night at Da Vincenzo. However, the execution was much better with al dente pasta. Flavors were bright and citrusy to complement the tender bits of shrimp.
Even though we didn’t intend to eat here, we were satisfied enough with the food. Nothing to fault, but also nothing to write home about since just about every place we visited in Italy served pasta just as Villa Margherita did, perfectly al dente and with classic, simple, and well executed flavors.
