No trip to Hong Kong is complete without eating dim sum.  I’m not sure if dim sum was invented here, but the city and this cuisine are almost synonymous in my mind.  The options range from cheap, quick, and dirty or expensive, high end, and Michelin starred.  I  heard so many different recommendations, and ultimately decided on the 3 star Michelin Cantonese restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel.  Reservations are a must and a dress code is loosely enforced.  In the hot humidity, my makeup and silk romper were in bad shape after our 15 minute walk to the restaurant.  Still, I looked nicer than most of the other ladies in the restaurant.

The sauces were delicious and enhanced every bite of dim sum.  My favorite was the chili sauce because it had more than just heat and kick.  There was definitely something tastier here.DSC00620

Steamed Shrimp Dumplings with Egg and Black Truffle
I’ve never had truffles in dumplings.  The Annoyer has had them at Din Tai Fung and gave it a thumbs down.  Words simply cannot describe how out-of-this-world delicious these little dumplings were.  DSC00623

The black truffle aroma was intoxicating, while the sweet supple shrimp were plentiful and satisfying.  The egg just blanketed everything is soft pillows of savoriness.  The skins were perfectly soft and chewy.  It’s hard to get better than this. YUMS.DSC00624

These were easily the best XLB I’ve eaten.  The broth had incredible depth and flavor without the suggestion of MSG enhancement.  Again, words just cannot describe the mind blowing level of culinary perfection achieved at Lung King Heen.  YUMS!DSC00630

The Annoyer complained about the dumpling’s construction because the shrimp on top made the dumpling hard to eat.  Honestly, it was so damn good I didn’t care that it fell apart.DSC00634

Baked Barbecued Pork Buns with Pine Nuts
I usually don’t eat this dim sum classic, but I heard such great things about Lung King Heen’s buns.  They certainly did not disappoint and, like everything else, pretty much blew my mind.  The pork was tender, not too sweet, and the bun was so soft and fresh.  YUMS!DSC00639

Crispy Australian Wagyu Beef Rolls with Scaly Hedgehog
The beef rolls were probably my least favorite dish, though it was still really delicious.  It just leaned a bit on the greasy side.  It was super crispy with tender slices of beef, similar in style to the filling of the BBQ pork buns.  The sauce was more brown than red and less sweet.DSC00640

Lung King Heen is hands down the BEST dim sum restaurant I have ever been to.  Each dim sum item was expertly crafted with the highest quality ingredients.  The flavors were beyond anything I could imagine.  I never knew the broth of a xiao long bao could be that tasty.  I never new the shrimp and pork of a siu mai could be delicately flavorful in such a subtle way.  I never knew the bun of a BBQ pork bun could be so pillowy soft and complemented with a thin sugary crispy topping.  They definitely hit it out of the park with the classic dim sum items.  And that truffle dumpling is like nothing I’ve tasted before.  In one word, this place is simply AMAZING.  Of course, it comes at a high price tag.  I believe our bill was around $100 per person.  It’s obviously not an every day dim sum place for the regular people.  But I think it’s worth the one time experience.  Everything from the service to the food was just WOW.
