Common Bond Bakery & Cafe

Yelp
I love a great pastry. Surprisingly, Houston has a wonderful little bakery serving up some very quality sweets, pastries, sandwiches, and coffee.
I had to settle on just 3 treats because we’re only 2 people and we eat like 3, though I would prefer to eat like 4.
Brioche
Sometimes broiche can be kinda plain and eggy. This was moist, fluffy, and just slightly sweet. One of the best brioche I can remember. The coarse sugary coating was too dense for my liking.
Kouign Aman
I’ve only ever had a kouign aman like this, one other time at San Francisco’s B. Patisserie. This might have been a better version since it didn’t have that runny syrupy center.
Check out those layers. It was a mess to eat, so you know it was nothing short of perfection.
Chocolate Chip Cookie
I am a chocolate chip cookie fiend and I will always check out every bakery, cafe, or restaurant’s offerings. Most places usually don’t past the appearances test for me, but the cookie at Common Bond looked the part. While it wasn’t nearly as good as the chocolate chip cookies I make, as most are not, it was good. It leaned more cakey than cookie and reminded me of Levain Bakery’s monstrosity.
Common Bond was a surprising treat. I was especially impressed by the kouign aman, which had the perfect flakey crunch on the outside with soft buttery layers on the inside. That brioche was light and certainly could be enjoyed a little more guilt free than the kouign aman. I can’t wait to go back and try their other offerings. It looks like they make macarons too, but that’s not my thang.
